Incertitudes

La Boîte I Un lieu d’art contemporain
Text by Selim Ben Cheikh
Photography is the art of representing reality, of capturing it.
A successful photograph takes into account a number of criteria: aesthetics, technique, contrast, sharpness, composition, all of which are rules that cannot be exceeded or circumvented. A successful photograph must take these criteria into account.
In a world that no longer respects values and rules, in a country going through a serious economic crisis, in a country where the future is looking increasingly bleak. In a country where it’s hard to see what the future holds. How do you stop yourself from no longer respecting the criteria and rules and adopting the stance of the Dada artists who rejected the values and rules of the time? My work is essentially a political stance on the political limbo that Tunisia has been experiencing since 2012.
My work is also an optimistic work, despite the horizon lines, marine landmarks and lighthouses that are still blurred. In this work, I wanted to take advantage of the nuances and colours that were available to me during twilight hours, and that’s what interests me in this work: capturing the beauty of the nuances and ignoring the rigour of the lines.
