The exhibition La Cité is an introduction to the forms of urban development centred on the city of Tunis. Formal-urbanised-structured neighbourhoods versus informal-anarchic-popular neighbourhoods, the city expands in pockets that eventually join together to form a predominantly informal mass, fed by a road network. The peripheral city or a new centrality…

The question of territory and planning is addressed through the experience of reconstruction in Tunisia in the aftermath of the Second World War. In response to the urgent primary needs of a city, a group of architects designed standard buildings and construction methods applicable to the whole of Tunisia. A selection of documentary films shows how this was done.

The La Cité exhibition looks at the city from four angles. In the vision of its designers and through the prism of its new peripheries. In the imagination of its artists: Gnaoui Sbai and his architectural utopias, Ali Tnani and his contemporary ruins (“the process by which nature integrates into its ecosystem what humans have abandoned”). And finally, in the hands of its citizens, with Cities-Skylines, a video game in the City Builders family, which will give everyone the chance to design their own city with an awareness of the collective and individual issues at stake.
